A Brief Explanation of How the Scheme Works
The contributions paid on behalf of a Police officer under this program, covers provision of health benefits for the beneficiary and five dependents consisting of 1 Spouse and 4 biological children (all below the age of 18).
Scope of Coverage
All principal beneficiaries are required at the point of registration, to choose one hospital from the list of all our healthcare providers (HCP) that have been approved by the NHIS to participate in the scheme. The HCP so chosen automatically becomes the enrollees’ healthcare provider.
All enrollees will be required to remain with their chosen healthcare provider – Primary Care physician. During this period, beneficiaries are not to visit any other hospital or clinic, unless by referral from your primary physician. When necessary, the member’s primary physician shall give a referral to the appropriate Specialist facility within the NHIS network (e.g. in cases requiring surgeries).
Emergency connotes any medical condition, which if not attended to immediately could lead to death or permanent disability. In cases of emergencies, enrollees can attend/visit any HCP within the network, located around the place of occurrence. However, where an HCP within the Police HMO network is not within reach, any other available HCP could be used. Such a facility so used is required to inform us within 24hrs through either our Call Center of through email.
