To mark this year’s Global handwashing day celebrations, the PHML organized a good hygiene/proper handwashing technique sensitization, lecture and practical demonstration at the POWA Int. School Area 11, Abuja. The event was targeted at pupils from primary 4 to 6. The pupils numbering over 250 and staff led by the Head Teacher Mr. Usman Wudil were excited to receive the PHML team.
Dr Abidemi Adesanya, Head Operations of PHML gave a lecture on the importance of good/proper hygiene in protecting against disease-causing germs, especially through hand washing. The pupils were sensitized on the high rate of deaths caused by the preventable diseases as well as curbing the spread of it. He also gave a practical demonstration of proper hand washing technique.
During the interactive session, the pupils were asked questions based on the earlier lecture to test their comprehension and those who gave the correct answers were rewarded with gifts. There was also a practical demonstration of the hand wash technique by them.
There were also games for the pupils- dance and handwashing games. Every pupil at the event was presented with a branded PHML notebook and a tablet of Septol antiseptic soap. Refreshment was provided for the pupils and staff. The PHML also made a donation to the school’s sick bay (10 PHML branded bedsheets, bottles of sanitizers and half carton Septol antiseptic soap.
The Head teacher was full of gratitude to the PHML for organizing such a laudable project in his school. He promised that both staff and pupils will put to use all that they have learnt at the event. Some of the pupils thanked the PHML for the events as well as the gifts given to them.
The theme for this year’s celebration was Clean Hands; A Recipe for Health.
